I watched a beautiful video of the residents of Wuhan celebrating the departure of all the nurses and doctors who fought the virus. The one thing that stands out for me, as the crowd hug and shake hands (without gloves), is that every single person is still wearing a mask.
While we may still be some way off from delivering masks to every South African, we can make a plan in the meantime (as only South Africans know how.) This is not a foolproof plan by any means, but a stopgap for now. I wrote the tweet below, which I would love to translate into all our official languages and perhaps send out via WhatsApp/ printed slip of paper/ carrier pigeon to as many people as possible. It goes like this:
”To avoid contracting or spreading Covid-19, especially where social distancing is impossible, wear a mask. Simply cut the sleeve off an old T-shirt, pull it over your head and down, across your nose and mouth. Wash your mask in hot, soapy water regularly" #ubuntuarmy
