I discovered an interesting and peculiar fact today, perhaps a Guinness World Record at that. It is possible to fit 100 loaves of bread into the passenger space of a Landcruiser single cab pickup. Pleased I crossed that one off the bucket list.
A very busy day of collecting and distributing food to the very poor and desperate in the CBD and to the crèche at the center of the Bhambayi Project. A big thank you to Eddie and Pierre from Ashton Family Cares for the donation of 40 amazing food hampers that went directly into St Peters church for distribution to a number of incredibly vulnerable families and individuals, including the feisty Yvonne, who is in her 80s, is in poor health. uses a walker and reads me the riot act every time our paths cross.
I tend not to post pics of the recipients of our parcels or support, in an attempt to respect their privacy. That said, many people have been only too happy to pose, usually next to myself or Fr. George for pics, and today I have included a few pics, so that you can all see who we are actually helping. The common thread amongst the people in the CBD, is that all of the parcels distributed in the past 24 hours have gone to individuals and families who hadn’t eaten for between 4 and 5 days. This lockdown is really taking a toll on the vulnerable and we are the only line between them and starvation.
A special thank you to Jo The Baby Home - Durban North for her support and to our Ubuntu soldier Maria Dorazio who once again organized an amazing donation of 100 loaves of bread, that will feed the children of the crèche, lunch for the week, and will be served with the soup at the St Peters soup kitchen.
Also. Thank you to everyone who is donating to the Ubuntu Army Food Chain. This contribution is critical to our continued ability to provide food to the poor and hungry. At this point, I do not have internet banking for the Ubuntu Army account and can not track the individual donations. Once I have access to this faculty, or a moment to visit a bank, I will be able to thank you all. In the meantime. Thank you!
